Photos showing the Crossroads of Curiosity at Burning Man 2014.  The Murals were a central part of the "Souk" that was the theme art installation at the Man Base (the area surrounding the effigy of the man).

This video shows the installation of a mural as it was done at Burning Man 2014.  After the murals were installed tents were erected around them.

Crossroads of Curiosity at Burning Man

These murals were originally created for Burning Man 2014.  The theme of that year's festival was “Caravansary”. The Caravansary at Burning Man was conceived of as "the crossroads of a dreamland: a bazaar of the bizarre wherein treasures of every sort, from every land and age, flow in and out to be flaunted, lost, exploited and discovered."

This idea of a Caravansary provided an overall thematic framework of fantasy for the festival-goers, and also subject matter for the art installations.   The Crossroads of Curiosity mural installation was located at the ordinal points within a large open tent structure known as the "Souk" that was erected around the base of the 100' tall effigy of the Burning Man.   This souk provided a meeting place for Burning Man regional chapters from around the world, and indeed anchored the festival, the axis around which the whole circular layout of the festival was centered.

Below you will find photos of the murals as they appeared at Burning Man, and also a video showing the dramatic method by which the giant lighboxes were hoisted into place with manpower.
